Survivor Support Department
IWD’s Survivor Support Program exists to prevent all forms of GBV, VAC, and other human rights violations such as modern slavery and human trafficking against individuals and communities. The program seeks to create a safe and supportive environment for survivors that promote healing, empowerment, and full reintegration into the community. This we do through provision of immediate and long-term support services to survivors, empowerment of survivors through education, vocational training, and allocation of resources, and advocacy for policy changes and awareness creation on all forms of GBV, VAC, and other human rights violations.
IWD strives to address the specific needs of survivors, challenging and addressing the root causes and other enabling factors that promote the occurrence of these vices in families, institutions and communities. We apply an integrated approach that brings on board multi-sector stakeholders who are involved in assisting survivors among them local authorities, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), learning institutions, and healthcare providers, to access support and prevent the occurrence of all forms of GBV, VAC, and other human rights violations.
The Survivor Support Program is a holistic and inclusive initiative that puts survivors at the centre of interventions and efforts, to ensure that all preventive and responsive services are survivor-centric and effective. The program is aimed at addressing not only the needs of individual members of the society but also the broader community context where these forms of violations happen.
