Economic Empowerment Program

Handcrafts can be a powerful tool for community groups in locally empowering project participants in several ways:

IWD engages project participants, particularly women, in handcraftmaking as a source of Income Generation. By making and selling these handcrafted goods, project participants generate revenue to support themselves and their families, with part of these resources being used for IWD’s sustainability.

In addition, working on the handcraft projects together strengthens social ties within the target communities as they provide platform for project participants to come together, share knowledge, and collaborate on creative endeavors in the process. These handcrafts projects also boost project participants’ confidence and self-esteem, creating a sense of accomplishment that motivate individuals to take on new challenges and pursue further opportunities.

The project also contribute to environmental sustainability as making of these handcrafts often involve using recycled material like plastics, bottles, waste paper among other recyclable material that would otherwise end up polluting the environment. By promoting eco-friendly crafting techniques, IWD helps individuals and communities to embrace sustainable practices and contribute to environmental conservation efforts in the process. Overall, these handcrafts serve as a versatile tool for IWD to empower project participants economically, socially, and culturally.
